Greece (country code +30)
Communication of 25.VI.2001:
The Greek Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT), Athens, announces the introduction of a new national numbering plan (NNP) in Greece (country code +30). The existing open numbering scheme will gradually become a uniform national ten-digit plan.
The need to expand the capacity of the existing numbering plan has resulted from the recent full liberalization of telecommunications market, which has led to a substantial increase in the demand for numbering resources.
General features of the new national numbering plan (NNP)
The new NNP is a closed ten-digit numbering plan according to ITU-T Recommendation E.164.
All existing national destination codes (NDCs) remain unchanged.
The NDCs should always be included when dialling a number, even for local calls.
Digit “0” is added between the NDC and the subscriber number (SN).
Timetable of introduction
The introduction of the new NNP will be implemented in two stages.
The first stage will be in effect as from 8 July 2001 (0200 hours UTC).
As from 8 July 2001 until 19 January 2002 (0200 hours UTC), the existing open numbering scheme will run in parallel with the new scheme.
The second stage of the introduction of the new NNP will be implemented in October 2002.
The details for the first stage are presented below. The details of the second stage will be included in a later announcement.
A) Geographic numbers
All NDCs remain unchanged. Existing NDCs have one, two or three digits. One of the NDCs has one digit (Athens), 6 NDCs have two digits, while 236 NDCs are three-digit long. The list of NDCs is presented below.
All national (significant) numbers (N(S)Ns) will become nine-digit long. As from 8 July 2001, existing eight-digit N(S)Ns will be converted to nine-digit N(S)Ns by adding the digit «0» (zero) between the NDC and the subscriber number (SN). (That means that “0” becomes the leading digit of all existing SNs.)
Until 19 January 2002, calls accessing both the existing eight-digit N(S)Ns and nine-digit N(S)Ns will be completed. During the parallel phase new customers will be assigned nine-digit N(S)Ns.
After 20 January 2002, calls accessing eight-digit N(S)Ns will be routed to a recorded announcement and will be discontinued. Only calls accessing nine-digit N(S)Ns will be completed.
The following table contains three examples describing the changes introduced:

As from 8 July 2001, the closed scheme will be in effect and, for calls originating from Greece, the NDC will be included when dialling a number, even for local calls (for example: 0 1 0 #######). Note that during the first stage of new NNP implementation, the leading ‘0’ remains as prefix for national calls, while it is not dialled for calls from abroad.
B) Mobile telephony numbers
During the first stage, existing mobile telephony numbers will not be affected. Overseas calls to existing mobile telephony numbers will remain as: +30 9A #######, A = 3, 4, 7.
C) Non-geographic non-mobile numbers
During the first stage, existing non-geographic non-mobile numbers will be affected as the following table indicates (for calls originating from Greece):

Greece (country code +30)
Communication of 10.VI.2002:
The National Telecommunications and Posts Commission (EETT), Maroussi, announces the dates of the final stage of introduction of the new national numbering plan (NNP) in Greece (country code +30). The existing closed numbering scheme will become a uniform national ten-digit plan.
The need to expand the capacity of the numbering plan has resulted from the recent full liberalization of the telecommunications market, which has led to a substantial increase in the demand for numbering resources.
· General features of the new NNP
– The new NNP is a closed ten-digit numbering plan according to ITU-T Recommendation E.164.
– The digit “2” is added as the leading digit of all existing national destination codes (NDCs) of geographical numbers, i.e. the current NDC of Athens which is 1, will become 21, the current NDC of Thessaloniki, which is 31, will become 231, etc.
– The NDCs are always included when dialling a number, even for local calls.
– The digit “6” is added as the leading digit of all existing access codes of mobile networks, i.e. the current access codes 93, 94, 97 and 99 will become 693, 694, 697 and 699, respectively.
· Timetable of introduction
The final stage of introduction of the new NNP will be implemented in two phases:
– The first phase (for fixed telephony numbers) will be in effect from 3 November 2002 (0200 hours UTC).
The change is flash. There will be no parallel running between old and new numbers.
– The second phase (for mobile telephony numbers) will be in effect from 19 January 2003 (0200 hours UTC).
The change is flash. There will be no parallel running between old and new numbers.
· Details of the number changes
A) Geographical numbers
As from 3 November 2002, all existing nine-digit national (significant) numbers (N(S)Ns) will be converted to ten-digit N(S)Ns by adding the digit “2” (two) just right after the country code (+30). The digit “2” is added as the leading digit of all NDCs for PSTN/ISDN numbers. Existing NDCs have one, two or three digits. New NDCs will have two, three or four digits. One of the NDCs will have two digits (Athens), six NDCs will have three digits, while 236 NDCs will be four digits long. The list of NDCs is presented in Appendix 1.
There will be no parallel running between existing and new numbers.
After 3 November 2002, calls accessing nine-digit PSTN/ISDN N(S)Ns will be routed to a recorded announcement and will be discontinued. Only calls accessing ten-digit N(S)Ns will be completed.
The following table includes three examples describing the changes introduced:

B) Mobile
telephony numbers
As from 19 January 2003, all existing nine-digit national (significant) numbers (N(S)Ns) will be converted to ten-digit N(S)Ns by adding the digit “6” (six) just right after the country code (+30). The digit “6” is added as the leading digit of all current access codes (93, 94, 97 and 99).
There will be no parallel running between existing and new numbers.
After 19 January 2003, calls accessing nine-digit PLMN N(S)Ns will be routed to a recorded announcement and will be discontinued. Only calls accessing ten-digit N(S)Ns will be completed.
